Anne’s Spiced Coffee

A few Saturdays ago, I caught the premier episode of a new series on The Food Network.  It is called Dessert First with Anne Thornton.  The title alone was enough to catch my attention…who doesn’t love to eat desserts first?  But the new mom in me, who is still trying to lose the baby weight, knew that I really don’t need more inspiration in the sweets department!  Ha!  However, her second episode featured a recipe for something that sounded like a great, easy indulgence I can have everyday…yes EVERYDAY!!!  It’s a spiced coffee recipe that can be made as a whole pot, or even in my little personal k-cup filters when I make 1/8 of the recipe.  To make sure that my wonderful new coffee treat doesn’t take any extra time out of my mornings, I have pre-mixed everything together, except for the orange zest, which is best fresh.  Add a 1/4 cup of frothed calci-skim milk (or any dairy if you are not counting calories) and you actually have a quick and healthy breakfast treat.  (Add a shot of your favorite orange or coffee flavored liquor and you have a wonderful surprise for your guests at a dinner party!)

Anne’s Spiced Coffee

  • 8 scoops ground coffee (8 tablespoons)
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest, fresh or dried

Directions

Fill a coffee filter with freshly ground coffee, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and zest. Fill the coffee maker with water to make 8 cups, and brew.
